If I'm Not a Member, why do I have to Sign-In?

They may look similar, but registered Clubs are different from hotels and restaurants, for example, while pubs are owned by a single person or a company, Clubs 'belong' to their members. This means all Club profits go into providing better Club facilities and financial support for their local community. The Government recognises this 'community' quality by treating Clubs a little differently under the law. As a result, Clubs have to keep records of both members and non-members when they visit. Generally, locals aren't allowed to visit without being either a member, or the guest of someone who is. So if you live within 15km (journey) of the Club, you'll need to come as the guest of a member, or join the Club - allowing you to come and go without signing in, as well as enjoying benefits such as discounted meals and drinks. These rules don't apply to people living more than 15km (journey) from the Club. So, if you're a visitor living beyond a 15km journey of the Club, you're welcome to enjoy the Club's facilities and hospitality – simply sign in at reception, and you'll receive a temporary members' pass

Club Queensland

The Queensland Club Industry

Queensland has approximately 1,000 registered and licensed Clubs that are located across the State. A vast majority of Clubs came into existence after the Second World War and in response to an increase in disposable income to spend on sport and other recreational activities and the corresponding shortage of community amenities to meet this purpose.
Clubs operate on commercial principles but must return any surplus for the benefit of their Members and the community, given their ‘non-profit’ status under legislation.
The main Club types are Sporting Clubs, RSL Ex-services and Memorial Clubs, Surf Life-Saving Clubs and Cultural or Interest-based Clubs and they range from a one-room Club house to multi-facilities venues.
Approximately 92% of Queensland adults (or 1.3 million people, with 2.4 million Memberships) are Club Members and a majority of them visit a Club once every fortnight for meals/dining, socialising, sporting, gaming and subclub activities.
As per their non-profit status, Clubs provide over $300 million in cash and in-kind support to their local communities every year for projects, including building and caring for community facilities; hosting community events; donations to charitable causes, including to schools and hospitals; sponsorship of gifts and prizes; maintenance of sporting fields and equipment; free or courtesy transportation; free sport and special interest training; and administrative support for legacy.
Approximately 23,000 full-time equivalent jobs, or 1 in 5 of all jobs in the Queensland sport and recreation sector, are located in Clubs, making the Club industry one of the most dynamic sectors of the Queensland economy.
The total contribution of Clubs to the Queensland economy is projected at approximately $1.2 billion or 1.4% of GDP every year, that is, for every $1 spent in a Club, approximately $1.30 is generated in the Queensland economy.
