A love of fishing brought a group of locals together late in 1955 and as a result, Blue Fin Fishing Club evolved. Today the club still organises fishing trips from Estuary and Surf, Fresh Water and Deep Sea Fishing.
Fishing Trips
Most of our Club trips are to Jumpinpin and the Broadwater. When we fish Jumpinpin our club briefings are held on Crusoe Island, and when we Fish the Broadwater, they’re at the boat ramp next to the Air Sea Rescue base north of the Sea World. Briefings take place at 3 o’clock when everyone is assembled. During our fishing season we have 16 Club trips, some are interclub competitions SQAFCA and QAFCA and some Ipswich competitions. The cost of trips is $15 and club boats are available for use on trips to members with a boat licence. If you haven’t got a boat licence a hire boat is made available, however it’s up to you to get a licence as soon as possible. If you require any more information please phone Paul Murphy (Captain) on 0413 255 131 and hopefully we can help.
We fish dams, weirs and waterways within a realistic distance from the Club. Dams we often visit are, Coolmunda near Inglewood, Maroon and Moogerah near Boonah and Leslie near Warwick. We use up to two rods each when fishing, some trips are in boats and|or off the banks. Costs: Adults $15 and must be members of the Club. Children, minors and juniors are free except for working juniors who pay only $7.50 per trip. Children are the future of our Club, and are warmly welcomed on our trips. Freshwater have 12 trips per season each year, and 6 of these are catered for by bus. Why not come along and let the bus driver worry about driving – you just have to bring yourselves, your gear, food, and camping gear!
Government required Freshwater Fishing Permits, in yearly or weekly permits, are available from Club’s reception. Craig Hardy is the Freshwater Captain, he welcomes your inquiries after 2 pm on 3879 1247 or 0407 073 544.
Some news from the Annual General Fishing Meeting...all fish with a non prescribed minimum legal size will now have to be a minimum of 25cm. Our charter boat skippers have been on this, any attempt to keep or weigh in fish under 25cm will result in disqualification. And a reminder that all deep sea trips are bottom fishing only, no float fishing. It is paramount that all members obey the direction of the skipper and crew as well as our Deep Sea Captain and Vice Captain. We are also looking to do a special trip to Double Island Point around August | September 2010. If you’re interested please speak to Steve Simonis (Captain) 0403 037 445 or Frank Holubowicz (Vice Captain) 0408 889 166 0403 037 445.
We fish approximately 6 trips per year, in various locations. The cost is $110 per trip (subject to change) except for special trips. Members assemble in the club car park prior to departing with transport available to the fishing location. Weigh in is conducted at the location at the end of the trip.
